Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL Review

Looking for a quality low cost Android phone? Then you'll definitely want to check out the new Moto G. Motorola's 2nd generation budget mobile expands on the first-gen model, offering a larger 5-inch display, a 32GB MicroSD expansion slot, updated cameras, and a stock Android experience, while retaining the same price point as last year.

Simple customizable design
Motorolla's 2nd generation Moto G 00506NARTL retains the simple curved design and spirit of the original, but with a few notable differences. Like the first-gen mobile, the rear of the new Moto G 00506NARTL is slightly curved and removable, allowing you to customize the back-plate to your liking with different colored Motorola shells. However, the new Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL features larger height and width dimensions due to the addition of bigger display, but it's also slightly thinner than the original. Motorola also added a water-resistant splash coating and replaced the the first-gen Moto G's rear mounted mono speaker with a set of front-facing stereo speakers.

Larger 5-inch display
Motorola increased the display size of the Moto G 00506NARTL by half an inch, giving the new mobile a 5-inch diagonal. Despite the increase in display size however, the Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL still retains the same 720p resolution as the original. Also like the original, the 2nd generation Moto G's 5-inch IPS display is covered by a scratch-resistant sheet of Corning Gorilla glass 3.

Quad-core processing power
The new Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL runs on much of the same hardware as last year's Moto G. The internals include a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, coupled with an Adreno 305 graphics processor, and supported by 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. With the same internals as last year, you can expect the same performance out of the new Moto G 00506NARTL as the original was capable of.

Improved cameras
Cameras on the new Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL include an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, upgraded from the 5 megapixel cam of the first generation Moto G. Motorola has also increased the aperture size of the camera, increasing the camera lens speed, which results in faster photo shooting capabilities. The new Moto G 00506NARTL also includes a front-facing cam which has been updated from 1.3 to 2 megapixels.

Extra storage capacity
A complaint many users of the original Moto G had was the smartphone's lack of a MicroSD slot. Motorola has remedied this by including a MicroSD memory card slot on the 2nd Generation Moto G 00506NARTL —adding up to 32 gigabytes of expandable storage.

3G wireless connectivity
The Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL is optimized to work with 3G UMTS/HSPA+ networks but lacks any LTE connectivity features. The absence of LTE is likely a cost cutting measure by Motorola. However, if LTE is what you need then you'll likely want to check out Motorola's Moto X instead. The new Moto G 00506NARTL also supports 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless standards and Bluetooth 4.0LE.

All day battery life
The new Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL comes with the same 2070 mAh Lithium-Ion battery as last year's mobile. So you can expect around the same battery life out of the new Moto G 00506NARTL as you would get from the original. Motorola claims an all day battery life on a full-charge for the Moto G which is a fairly accurate assessment.

Android 4.4 KitKat
The 2nd Generation Motorola Moto G 00506NARTL comes with a mostly stock version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat with a few proprietary software features. Motorola has added a small but useful app bundle which includes Motorola's Alert, Assist, Connect, Migrate, Camera, and Help apps. Motorola also promises an upgrade to the upcoming Android L operating system upon its release.
