Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT (AT&T) Review

Some have described Samsung's latest flagship mobile as more of an evolution than revolution, but this year Samsung seems to be paying more attention to the things that matter most to the end-user. Samsung has taken a 'back to the basics' approach with the Galaxy S5, focusing on improving the essentials, while continuing to build upon previous innovations.

Modern glam style design
Even at a glance you can tell that Samsung's new smartphone looks different from last year's Galaxy S4. Like previous generations before it, the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT is still constructed from a light-weight polycarbonate, but the design and shape has changed. The corners appear more angular than the shape of the Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT also features a textured soft-touch rear casing instead of the glossy style of the S4. The S5's perforated texture provides a much better gripping surface than the S4's slick glossy plastic.

Dust-resistant and waterproof
Samsung's S5 can also hold up well outdoors thanks to dust and waterproofing technologies. The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT comes IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. This means the S5 can withstand the rain and can survive submerged in a meter of water for up to half an hour.

Increased mobile security with new fingerprint scanner
Fingerprint recognition is quickly becoming the new security trend among mobiles, and Samsung has developed their own version of the technology. Simply swipe your finger over the sensor and you can unlock the S5. The fingerprint scanner can also be used to verify your identity when making purchases via PayPal, or when purchasing mobile content through Samsung services.

Health and fitness tracking
The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT comes with a heart rate sensor on the rear of the device just under the camera. The heart sensor allows you to keep track of your heart rate and fitness activities through Samsung's S Health app. With S Health you can also measure your current speed, the distance you have covered, and calories burned.

Super AMOLED display technology
The display panel hasn't changed much since the Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display which is only slightly larger than the S4's 5-inch display. The S5 display panel has a resolution of 1920x1080 and a slightly lower pixel density measuring 432 pixels-per-inch. Despite the lack of an upgrade in this area, the Galaxy S5's high-definition display still looks great. Colors appear vibrant and rich and are not as oversaturated as on the Galaxy S3. Samsung has also integrated a nice set of display adjustment features on the S5, so you can customize the screen settings how you like.

Improved processing speed and power
When it comes to overall power the Galaxy S5 has the S4 beat. The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900AZDAATT is powered by an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor which runs at 2.5 GHz. The S5 also features a more powerful Qualcomm Adreno 330 graphics processor running at 578 MHz. RAM speed has also been increased on the S5 which contributes to a boost in overall system performance.
